Perception of medicine students about university social responsibility

Abstract

Medicine students are the majority population within the María Auxiliadora University from Loma Pyta city, hence the interest in analyzing the perception of these students about the development of University Social Responsibility, at the María Auxiliadora University, its impact on society both Paraguayan and Latin American, considering that this University is a private institution accessible to students of different economic and social status in Paraguay as well as in the Mercosur region. The objective of the study was to describe the perception of university students of the Medicine career, about the development of University Social Responsibility, about the knowledge they have about it, about the meaning and spaces for participation that the María Auxiliadora University promotes in activities related to University Social Responsibility. The work has a quantitative approach. In data collection, the survey technique was used and the questionnaire as an instrument, the population included medical students from November to December 2019 and a sample of 156 students selected by simple random probability sampling. A positive perception was obtained by university students about University Social Responsibility, reaching a high level of satisfaction. The results highlight the importance of University Social Responsibility when facing new challenges in the social, political, and economic scenario of the country, combining its functions of teaching, research, management, and university extension, thus influencing the social transformation of Paraguay country.
