Abstract

The inclusion of functional diversity in education is one of the greatest demands of today's society. Autism spectrum disorder and the dramatic increase in its prevalence in recent years force university institutions to adapt to the needs of students with this condition to preserve educational quality and provide their right to education. In this context, this research arises, which aims to describe the beliefs of university teachers regarding autism. The methodology used was quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, with a survey as a data collection instrument, applied in two moments, before and after an informative and participatory training to 33 teachers from a private university in the department of Itapúa-Paraguay. Hypothesis tests were carried out (Wilcoxon rank test) in order to detect significant differences between the pre-test and post-test. The results obtained indicate that the training is useful when modifying those beliefs and myths that arise from the lack of knowledge about the ASD and the dissemination of false data of contemporary origin, however, is not effective in modifying beliefs rooted in popular culture. Resistance to change in these domains suggests the need for deeper, contextually sensitive strategies to challenge and reshape these entrenched perceptions.
