The The contribution of cooperativism to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals: a joint social action approach

Abstract

Cooperativism has established itself as an organizational model that significantly contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its impact is evident in the reduction of inequalities, the creation of decent jobs, and the strengthening of the social economy. The objective of this study was to analyze the contribution of cooperatives to the implementation of the SDGs, with an emphasis on their role in social and economic transformation. A qualitative approach was applied, using Systematic Grounded Theory and documentary analysis of 18 verified sources. The results indicate that cooperatives have promoted financial inclusion, facilitating access to credit and basic services in vulnerable sectors. Likewise, it was identified that their democratic structure favors job stability and equity in the distribution of benefits. In the Paraguayan context, cooperativism has been a key pillar of the social economy, but it faces challenges such as a lack of access to financing and the need for greater integration into public policies. At the environmental level, progress has been made in sustainability, although strategies to mitigate ecological impact need to be strengthened. The study concludes that cooperativism represents a viable alternative for building more just and sustainable societies. However, its consolidation will depend on its ability to innovate, improve governance, and strengthen alliances with other sectors. It is recommended to continue promoting its development through policies that enhance its impact on the fulfillment of the SDGs.
