Trastorno de síntomas somáticos: una actualización

Resumen

El trastorno de síntomas somáticos se caracteriza por la presencia de al menos un síntoma somático, que genera una disrupción significativa en la vida cotidiana del paciente afectado y que se asocia a la presencia de pensamientos, sentimientos y conductas relacionadas al mismo. Los pacientes con este trastorno sienten como si la mayor parte de sus vidas hayan estado “enfermos” o con algún tipo de malestar. En general, se quejan de múltiples síntomas somáticos, que son incapacitantes o interfieren significativamente con su vida diaria. Los síntomas pueden ser específicos (por ejemplo, dolor localizado) o inespecíficos (por ejemplo, fatiga), y algunas veces pueden ser sensaciones corporales normales o malestar que no representan enfermedad grave. Asimismo, los pacientes afectados experimentan mucha angustia, la cual está enfocada principalmente en los síntomas somáticos y su significado. El objetivo de este artículo de revisión es presentar una actualización sobre el trastorno de síntomas somáticos, a fin de orientar a médicos y otros profesionales de la salud en las particularidades de su etiopatogenia, clínica y manejo terapéutico.
